Wanted: Help Improving our Technology!

November 17, 2016 by redbranchtheaterco Leave a Comment

If you’ve ever experienced a show at Red Branch, chances are that you have been captivated by thoughtful performances given by the artists that grace our stage. Help us enhance the work that they do for your future enjoyment as we embark on a HUGE overhaul of many of our technical components. That includes the purchase of:

  • new energy-efficient lighting equipment
  • a new sound system and body microphones
  • atmospherics and soft goods (fancy theatre speak for a hazer and large-format stage fabric)

We have a large portion of the funds ready for this enormous undertaking through generous grants awarded by the Howard County Arts Council and Community Foundation of Howard County. With your help, we know that we can raise the remainder to get this project underway in time to be unveiled at our March opening of Mad Libs Live!

We’re glad you asked… there are two easy, tangible ways for you to help!

  1. Donate today! You can make a one-time or recurring tax-deductible donation on our website. Make sure that you designate “Technology Grant Match” at the time of donation so that your contribution is coded to this campaign!
  2. Pledge to Spread the Word! We’re launching a Text4Tech one-day campaign on Giving Tuesday. Take the pledge to text at least 10 friends with the phone number that allows donors to contribute straight from their smartphone. We’ll send you all of the details as we get closer to the big day.

The celebrity in The Happy Elf

November 14, 2016 by redbranchtheaterco 1 Comment

Grammy-winner Harry Connick, Jr. wrote an original song called “The Happy Elf” that became an animated family holiday television special. It first aired on December 2, 2005 and featured the voices of some very famous people:

  • Harry Connick, Jr. narrated and played Lil’ Farley
  • Carol Kane as Gilda
  • Lewis Black as Norbert
  • and Mickey Rooney as Santa Claus

So what could be better than all of these show biz icons that found their way into the original family holiday special? Well, at Red Branch, in addition to having Harry Connick, Jr.’s voice… we also have Santa Claus. He’s in the show!

The big guy himself is taking some time away from getting ready for Christmas to appear on stage in Red Branch’s production of The Happy Elf! We couldn’t be more pleased to welcome Santa to our stage. In addition to singing along with Eubie the Elf and the rest of the gang, Santa will also be available after all of our matinees to take pictures with little kids and big kids alike. That’s right– since Santa’s in the show, we’re expanding our Santa Sightings offerings this year. Stay after the show to get a special Red Branch treat and meet “Big Red” himself.

Matinee performances (all are at 2:00)

  • Saturday, December 9
  • Sunday, December 10
  • Saturday, December 16
  • Sunday, December 17

Get more information on Harry Connick, Jr.’s The Happy Elf, and buy your tickets today! Our December show sells quickly every year, so you don’t want to miss your opportunity to share what’s soon to be your new holiday favorite with the whole family!

See what they’re saying

…about Evil Dead!

Our resident campy horror musical comedy has been pleasing audiences and critics alike. Here’s just a little bit of what they’ve been saying…

“Director-Choreographer Jenny Male has long been the local go-to gal when it comes to staging fights and other physical business on stage. That makes her an ideal choice for all the raucous, afterhours slapstick in store here.” … “This well-mounted area premiere is another memorable season highlight…” — John Harding, DC Metro Theatre Arts. Full 4-1/2 star review can be found here.

“Red Branch Theatre Company brings this cult classic to the stage brilliantly and this is an experience you don’t want to miss!” –Jason Crawford Samios-Uy, Backstage Baltimore. Full review can be found here.

“One of the best things about this production is the obvious comradery among the cast. They are having a lot of fun up there… we enjoyed every minute! And with the laughter that filled the theatre, I’m guessing the entire audience did too.” –April Forrer, MD Theatre Guide. Read the whole review here.

“While this isn’t a life changing show, it is an immense amount of fun… There was plenty of full on belly laughing.” –Ben Harcourt, TheatreBloom. Read the whole 4-1/2 star review here.

“As the five college kids who mostly are majoring in stupid behavior, there are enjoyable over-the-top performances by Ben Stoll, Carson Elizabeth Gregory, Danny Bertaux, Sarah Goldstein, and Angeleaza Anderson.” –Mike Giuliano, Howard County Times/Tribune

Events this Weekend at Evil Dead

October 11, 2016 by redbranchtheaterco Leave a Comment

We had a great opening weekend of Evil Dead: the Musical (complete with a packed opening night house and a BIG season 2017 announcement coming to the site soon). Tickets are flying for the rest of the run, but there’s no time like the present to bring a couple of events coming up this weekend to your immediate attention.

  1. Thirsty Thursday – Pre-Show Happy Hour Join us at 6:30 on Thursdays for a libation before the show in the rehearsal studio. The first one is this Thursday, October 13th! Open to all adults ages 21 and over (IDs will be checked at the door), all we ask is for a donation to help offset the cost of the gathering. No cash? No problem. Text your desired dollar amount to 410-204-2060 to donate right from your phone. The show is even more awesome (if that’s even possible) with a drink or two in you. More information can be found here.
  2. ASL-Interpreted Performance (Sunday, October 16 at 3 PM) Central to Red Branch’s core values is to create theatre that’s accessible for all. Join us for our ASL-interpreted performance. If you need access to the interpreter, just fill out the contact form on the website or Facebook with your name after you’ve purchased tickets. We’ll make sure that we transfer you into the interpeted section. More info here.

Check out what the critics are saying so far. Reviews from Backstage Baltimore and DC Metro Theater Arts can be found here and here.

Read to buy your tickets? Don’t wait… tickets are going fast (and Splash Zone tickets for many performances are selling out).
