Get to Know the Penguins of Madagascar

October 23, 2017 by redbranchtheaterco Leave a Comment

We’re so excited to bring the world of the DreamWorks Animated feature to magical new life on our stage with Madagascar – A Musical Adventure this December. All of your favorite characters will be there moving, shaking, and telling the story of creatures in captivity breaking out of the Central Park Zoo for a taste of the world that’s “wild and free.” We’re going to take the next couple of weeks to introduce (or re-introduce) you to the characters from Madagascar.

First up, the Penguins!

This gang of penguins is on a secret agenda of escaping the confines of the zoo and being free in Antarctica.

Skipper is the leader of the penguins. No one is sure exactly how old Skipper is, but his resentment towards counterculture hippies suggests that he is the oldest of the four penguins. As the leader, Skipper is the mastermind behind a plot to escape the confines of the zoo and leave for Antarctica.

Kowalski is ranked Second-in-Command as Skipper’s Lieutenant. He forms plans for the group and takes notes for Skipper. He also serves as the team’s medic and chief scientist and inventor. Due to his intellect, he also tends to unnecessarily over-analyze simple situations.

Rico is head of demolition and quartermaster for the Penguins. He usually babbles rather than speaking actual words. He’s the team’s muscle, and has an almost psychotic love for violence and destruction.

Private is the youngest, shortest, and most inexperienced member of the team. Despite his inexperience, he is an excellent fighter and speaks with a British accent. As the yongest member of the team, he’s more gullible and easily trusting.

Now that you’ve met the undercover agents of the Central Park Zoo, tell us, who’s your favorite penguin? Madagascar – A Musical Adventure runs at Red Branch Theatre Company from December 8-23, 2017. Check out our full lineup for special events like:
